I wake up and it’s still dark

but something in me knew to rise.

I don’t turn the light on.

I just sit on the edge of the bed.

But something in me knew to rise

like the ache of a thought that has no name.

I just sit on the edge of the bed.

I don’t cry, but I almost could.

Like the ache of a thought that has no name,

something heavy and invisible sits beside me.

I don’t cry, but I almost could.

I think about someone I haven’t thought of in months.

Something heavy and invisible sits beside me.

I don’t turn the light on.

I think about someone I haven’t thought of in months.

I wake up and it’s still dark.
